The Blessings of Lama Tsongkhapa

The Blessings of Lama Tsongkhapa

As some of you already know, on October 21st I posted an appeal for funds to complete the publication of several titles that Dechen Ling Press could not afford to publish. The campaign was very successful for which I thank you all.

Shortly after posting the appeal, I spoke with Gen Lobsang Choephel on the phone from his monastery in India. Up to that point I had never once prayed to have a long life. Instead I merely asked for whatever was most beneficial for others. Gen-la, Lama Zopa, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as well as many other holy beings and Dharma-friends had been praying for my long life and Gen-la commented that I should “At least try a little.” Therefore I decided to do a retreat on the Migtsema prayer to Lama Tsongkhapa for  increasing attainments. I had already completed the proper retreat in the early 90s so at this point I merely focused on the special lineage of instruction for increasing one’s life, merit, realizations, and so forth.

As a result of my advanced liver failure, at this point I had gained 27 pounds of fluid to my very slight frame of 122 pounds. The doctors informed me that this was the “beginning of the end” and it was merely a matter of time before my inevitable passing. They stopped the chemo and were merely treating symptoms. Within a couple of weeks of starting the retreat I began losing massive quantities of fluid and within 2 ½ weeks I had lost all but a couple of pounds of the fluid accumulation and began feeling remarkably better. I was having very auspicious dreams and very good experiences both in and out of my sessions. I was studying and meditating on Chandrakirti’s Guide to the Middle Way which greatly contributed to spiritual insights.

I phoned the doctors and told them of my sudden weight loss and they were kind but obviously very skeptical. When I actually saw them in person a few weeks later they were completed astonished. They told me that even with a new liver it would take months to lose all that fluid. Since then I have continued to feel better and stronger. I have completed my retreat and am now awaiting the results of my latest MRI.

Such are the profound blessings of Lama Tsongkhapa and the guru.
